WILDCATS QUALIFY FOR SEMI-STATE

Wildcat Fans,

The 'Cats were runners-up at the highly anticipated Brebeuf Regional last Saturday.  Led by a sixth place finish from senior Jake Hanawalt, the 'Cats managed to qualify for the Semi-State for the first time since 2010.  That year the Wildcats went on to finish a close third at the state meet.  Also scoring for the 'Cats were Senior Joe Murphy (7th), Junior Ethan Hoeft (9th), Junior TJ Jerger (37th) and Junior Wyatt Spencer (45th).  This was Spencer's first race in a Varsity Singlet for the Wildcats and he responded with a break out performance.  Spencer was awarded the coveted "Golden Hammer" award by the coaches after the meet.  The Wildcats will return to action this coming Saturday at Northview Christian Church in Carmel.  The top 6 teams from the Semi-State will advance to the State Finals on November 2nd in Terre Haute, IN.

MURPHY WINS MIC TITLE

Wildcat Fans,

The Wildcats finished third at the MIC Championships as a team and were lead by an impressive win by Joe Murphy.  Joe's time of 15:35 nearly matches his fastest this season of 15:32.  Joe becomes the first Wildcat to capture the MIC title since LNXC legend, Nef Araia won the crown in 2003.  After convincing wins at 1600m and 800m last spring, this win finishes a "triple crown" at MIC competition for Murphy in 2013.

Congrats to Joe and the Wildcats for another strong showing at the MIC championships.  On to the tournament!

RECORD BREAKING DAY AT HARRISON INVITE

Wildcat Fans,

Top to bottom, the 'Cats were on record setting pace at Saturday's Lafayette Harrison Invitational.  This race was held at the traditionally fast course at the Tippecanoe Amphitheater, and given the near perfect conditions at race time, it was bound to be a fast day.  It was.  The 'Cats were led by an outstanding performance from Senior Joe Murphy.  His time of 15:33 puts him #2 all-time for LNXC.  Following closely behind him was fellow Senior Robel Teklezghi who ran 15:47.  That mark is good enough to him tied for the 10th fastest time in program history!  Lastly, rounding out our front pack, was Senior Jake Hanawalt.  He finished in 15:51 and is sitting at #13 on our all-time list.  Further, our top 5 posted a team-time of 81:07, which is the 10th fastest performance in school history and the fastest we have ever run at the Harrison Invitational.  (including Nef Araia's Senior year... and mind you we were short on of our top 5 runners!)  The top 5 was rounded out by Personal Best performances from Juinors TJ Jerger and Erik Perkins.  Next week the 'Cats will be in action at the Pike JV Dual meet on Tuesday and the Ben Davis Invitational on Saturday.

'CATS WIN DANVILLE HOKUM-KAREM FOR SECOND YEAR IN A ROW

Wildcat Fans,

For the second consecutive year the Wildcats took home the t-shirts at the Danville Hokum-Karem.  The team was led by a pair of Seniors as the team of Joe Murphy and Jake Hanawalt won the six-mile relay in commanding fashion.  The 'Cats were down two varsity runners and relied on some new faces to the Varsity Line-up for big performances.  Junior TJ Jerger and Sophomore Matt Hoskins answered the call leading their pairs to 7th and 9th place finishes respectively.  In the JV race the Wildcats were led up front by Junior transfer Wyatt Spencer, whose third place finish shows he is someone to watch for in coming weeks as he is a threat to make the Varsity roster.
The Wildcats open up their 5,000m racing season on Saturday, September 7th at the Lafayette Harrison Invitational.
